Laurel Emory has recently had the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) conferred upon her by Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Laurel’s Ph.D. is in the discipline of Organizational Leadership with a major in Human Resource Development. Her doctoral dissertation, a qualitative research study, is titled, The Influence of Human Agency on the Professional Path of Women in Executive Leadership Positions. Studying the lives of five women CEOs of multi-million dollar companies, Dr. Emory’s dissertation explores the cultivation and actualization of human agency in these women’s lives and identifies how becoming agentic can help other women prepare for a professional path leading to executive leadership.
Dr. Emory is the Principal of Emory Consulting and Coaching, a boutique firm that provides expertise to companies and organizations in the areas of organizational leadership, strategy, communication, culture, and change. Clients include a multi-million dollar healthcare company, a conservation and education non-profit organization, two independent authors, and a church-based publishing house.
Dr. Emory’s career spans over 19 years of experience in operations and strategy primarily in healthcare, education, and publishing, in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Most recently she served as the Chief of Staff to the Chief Executive Officer of a $1-billion healthcare company. In this role she was responsible for providing leadership advice, support, and guidance to the Chief Executive Officer, and the executive team members to ensure organizational success. Dr. Emory was chosen to serve in this role because she championed and established a standard of excellence by exhibiting personal integrity. She was the recipient of the organization’s Leadership Award for Service Excellence in 2012. In addition to her formal role, Dr. Emory also served as a mentor to women in the organization and continues to mentor women who are seeking to learn more about themselves and how they can fulfill God’s purposes in their lives.
Dr. Emory has twice been an invited speaker at the Autonomous Learner World Caucus at Oxford University. She has also been an invited speaker at the George Fox University Leadership Symposium and was awarded the university’s Servant Leader Award for Excellence in 2008.
In addition to her Ph.D., Dr. Emory also holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree from George Fox University is Newberg, Oregon and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Theology from San Jose Christian College (now William Jessup University in Rocklin, California).
Dr. Emory lives in the Denver, Colorado metro area with her husband, Corey, and their two felines. In addition to reading, writing, and traveling, she loves to enjoy Colorado by fly-fishing its amazing rivers and streams, as well as relaxing in eucalyptus steam rooms at some of its great day spas.
