3. Back to School with Public-School Teacher and Single Mom – Melanee Todd
Single mom of a 12-year-old and 14-year-old, and public-school 4th grade teacher, Melanee Todd, shares her tips for helping make the back-to-school experience as successful and drama-free as possible.
Find a rhythm and routine and stick to a schedule – be protective of the schedule
Make sure you plan for fun activities together and downtime
Tell the kids the schedule and what fun things they can look forward to
Allow yourself trial error to figure out what works best for your family
Use tools that help you to stay organized and give you back time
Invite your kids into the problem-solving, so that they have buy-in
Be a team with your kids
Extend grace to yourself, to your children, to teachers
If you haven’t read Boundaries – this is your notice to do so. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, stop, and order and read this book immediately!!
And if you have a ‘highly recommend’ book that teaches boundaries to teenagers, please message Laurel so that she can pass on the helpful info.Want to talk about life as a single working mom?
